My ultimate ambition has always been to be a litigator, and to spend some of my time defending pharmacists and the profession.

I hope to move the needle on creating welcoming practices for historically marginalized patients so that they can have equitable access to competent and caring pharmacy practitioners.

I always envisioned that I would be an advocate for patients' and healthcare workers' rights. This vision grew while I was in pharmacy school, as I saw many inequities and discriminatory incidents within the healthcare field. I soon realized that to truly fight for justice, I needed a larger platform.

In my last blog and now, in this week’s blog, I am providing readers with a sense of what it’s been like for me to transition from pharmacy owner to employee, and I’m sharing what I’ve been doing during my first year with Neighbourly Pharmacy.

My biggest motivation is the direct impact I have on my patients and colleagues. Since I started being involved, I have always kept in mind the wellbeing of the students, my patients and other professionals.

Who knew that in my 37th year post-graduation as a pharmacist, I’d still have so much I want to accomplish before my professional journey is complete? What an interesting year I’ve had. November 30th marked the one-year anniversary since the sale of Sandstone Pharmacies to Neighbourly Pharmacy.

As pharmacists we are uniquely positioned to work in a diverse range of settings – community pharmacy, hospital, government, pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies, and beyond. Be open to new experiences and new challenges – you grow when you are uncomfortable.

I firmly believe that to lead a purposeful life we need to have the humility to keep learning, the resilience to keep adapting and the passion to keep improving.
