Our role continues to transform, and the fact that our profession is always evolving is very motivating. Not only that, but also being elected by fellow pharmacists to serve and represent them and our profession on a national and international level, to actively advocate for the profession, is what keeps me passionate and motivated.

Young leaders are not afraid to challenge the status quo and ask the question: “Could this be done differently?” Just because something has “always been done this way” doesn’t mean it is the best approach moving forward.

I've discovered that the greatest impact I've made in my career is not with my patients but with my colleagues. While the impacts I've made with patients fulfill my sense of purpose, the biggest difference I can make is helping empower my colleagues to be confident and effective in their work.

The profession of pharmacy is currently at the forefront of change. Now more than ever, pharmacy is shifting away from being solely regarded as retail medication dispensers to being viewed as medication experts. More and more, patients are starting to see the vast clinical roles that pharmacists can provide, from injections and self-care counselling to even prescribing!

I like to think of young leaders as plants that blossom and show their colours and fruits. To do that, you need to nurture that plant with the essential nutrients and water it needs. It is the same for pharmacists, we need to keep learning, understand the advancements in the profession and the new technologies that come to support healthcare.

Pharmacy is a female-dominated field and yet there remains a considerable gender disparity in pharmacy leadership and ownership. Women often face gender-specific challenges, including a lack of recognition, support, and mentorship opportunities. Highlighting the stories of women in pharmacy and shedding light on systemic issues is the first step toward equitable representation.

Experience has shown me that passion, eagerness to learn and reflect, and networking are keys to success. When you have passion for something – no matter what happens – you will always have the strength to achieve what you want.

The role of pharmacy and pharmacist is evolving rapidly. With the advent of technologies like artificial intelligence, integrated virtual health, and automation, pharmacy capabilities and clinical breakthroughs will be immense. There is still so much to learn and experience, and being a part of this change is what continues to drive me.
