Most of us know Albert Einstein’s famous equation, E = mc2. It struck me that a similar formulation could describe the enjoyment of life, in relationship to medical care, quantity and quality.
When patients are informed, engaged, proactive and use the health system appropriately health systems perform better. In contrast, passive and non-adherent patients who misuse healthcare will strain health systems.
The study drew from more than 13,000 people 50 years and older living in urban areas who are taking part in the larger national Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging.
Centenarians are of such great interest to scientists because they may hold the key to understanding how we can live longer—and live longer in better health.
