London, Ont., physician Dr. George Peter Arthur Rice failed to adhere to proper infection prevention practices over a period of almost five years, according to public health officials.
Under the new program, an inspector with Collège des médecins du Québec analyzes public insurance data against a set of criteria and risk indicators for unusual or potentially inappropriate prescriptions for opioids and benzodiazepines.
These rare infections can progress quickly leading to serious and life threatening infections, including sepsis, soft-tissue necrosis, toxic shock syndrome and meningitis.
Either amoxicillin or amoxicillin-clavulanate will clear infection, but the former is less likely to result in side-effects or antimicrobial resistance.
