4/11/2011 Every year the Branham Group comes out with a list of its Top 250 Canadian Technology Companies. Within the list are subcategories, including the Top 5 Pure-Play Healthcare ICT (Information and Communications Technology) Companies. It's notable how little movement there is in this subcategory, and how far back in the overall pack they are.
3/28/2011 When it comes to priorities in elections, it’s almost always the economy. Certainly, the economy is getting a fair shake in this Canadian election too. But what's strange this time around is that the other issues the politicians are focusing on are military spending, corporate tax cuts and integrity. This is odd because it's healthcare that tops the list of priorities for Canadians.
3/14/2011 Every now and then a big story hits the news about a major privacy breach with health records. Someone has left a USB stick in a lecture hall, or lost an un-encrypted laptop. There is much astonishment, hand-wringing and demand for stricter polices and better training. In a past blog I even suggested making individuals liable. Still, the problem persists.
2/28/2011 The average Canadian may not know the difference between an EMR and an EHR, and may never have heard of Canada Health Infoway, but they may be ahead of their own physicians in understanding the central importance of electronic records – not only to their own care, but for the system as a whole.
