Alanna McDonald says she was put on a two-year waiting list for an MRI in January 2023 after unexplained bursts of kaleidoscopic vision developed into debilitating migraines and facial numbness.
The province says a new centre will tackle backlogs by providing a one-stop spot for people to access care, including diagnostic imaging, consultations and post-treatment.
'We need to move expeditiously' to lock down a comprehensive care funding model, said Alberta Medical Association president Dr. Paul Parks. 'The urgency is still very real.'
The health insurance board, known as the RAMQ, says it learned of the decision this morning and will immediately start taking steps to implement the change.
