How well did your medical school do in the latest world rankings?

Canadian medical schools held steady in the Times High Education university rankings by medicine and health subject matter, with a few noticeable leaps. The University of Ottawa, previously in the top 125, jumped to 89th place. McGill University and Queen’s University also climbed higher.The medical and health subject ranking includes university programs in medicine, dentistry, nursing and other healthcare disciplines. There were 1,230 universities from 102 countries included in the rankings for medical and health programs. University of Oxford took the top spot again this year, with the University of Cambridge following and Harvard University as third. In 2025, Harvard University was ranked second.Like last year, University of Toronto ranked ninth in the world, with an overall score of 88.1 and a score of 100 in patents and connections to industry, one of the areas Times Higher Education examines in the rankings. McGill University scored 27 (up from 29 last year) tying with Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. University of British Columbia was also in a tied position, sharing 31st place with Washington University in St. Louis. McMaster University ranked 42nd, also scoring 100 for industry. University of Alberta was 77 and University of Ottawa was 89th, a higher ranking than last year.Université de Montréal, University of Calgary, Queen’s University and Western University were all in the top 150, with Queen’s moving up to the top 125 universities. Dalhousie University, Université Laval, University of Manitoba were in the top 200. University of Saskatchewan was in the top 300 and Memorial University of Newfoundland and Toronto Metropolitan University were in the top 500 of the 1,250 universities ranked. University of Sherbrooke and Northern Ontario School of Medicine University were not part of the rankings.McMaster University president and vice-chancellor Susan Tighe said that she was confident that the school’s impact will continue to grow “as we drive discovery and innovation in medicine and health sciences.”The ranking is “a testament to the continued excellence of our students, faculty and staff who are building on McMaster’s strong history as pioneers of evidence-based medicine and problem-based learning,” she said in a university press release.All Canadian medical schools included in the medicine and health subject ranking had a higher female to male ratio.
