Gun legislation: doctors as advocates for public health and safety
On May 1, the government of Canada under the relevant statute of the Firearms Act introduced Orders in Council, prohibiting the sale, use, transfer, lending or transport of 1500 types of semi-automatic rifles with sustained rapid-fire capacity. Among the banned weapons is the AR-15, commonly used in mass shooting, including the New Zealand mass shooting that killed 51 people. -
Virtual care use ignited by COVID-19 pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic has provided the opportunity for Canada to go from “worst to first” in using virtual care and assessing its impact. That’s according to Dr. Sacha Bhatia, FM Hill Chair in Health Systems Solutions and the Chief Medical Innovation Officer at Women’s College Hospital in Toronto and currently one of the country’s more eloquent advocates for virtual care.
