In July 2020, the province announced they would no longer issue birth alerts, a policy implemented by the Child and Family Services (CFS) system to alert hospitals and other CFS agencies of a mother deemed to be "high-risk'' and in need of further assessment before they could be discharged with a newborn baby.
The Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists voted to approve amendments to its bylaw to make registered pharmacy technicians full voting members, with all associated rights and benefits.
The college says the move was made under legislation that allows it to issue such orders where there is evidence to support that patients would otherwise be exposed to risk of harm or injury.
