The new system will allow for a person with intellectual disabilities—who may have difficulty understanding and conveying information—to make decisions using the assistance of others who are appointed by the person or the courts.
The Ontario College is set to develop a standard for the requirement, which will be presented at the next board meeting in March 2023 and will come into effect immediately after approval.
