Dr. Michael Kaufmann, director of the Ontario Medical Association’s Physician Health Program (PHP), says that by 2008—over a decade after the PHP was created to deal with physicians’ mental health and addiction issues—he became so overwhelmed with requests, “I simply had to say I couldn’t do this anymore without help.”
