Ontario pharmacies can now participate (for free) in Stewardship Ontario’s Orange Drop program and take back pharmaceuticals, sharps, needles and syringes from the public.

Two new influenza vaccines—FluMist and Intanza—will be available this fall, providing some patients with potential alternatives to the traditional flu vaccines that are given by intramuscular injection.

A Health Council of Canada-commissioned discussion paper is calling for renewed efforts in the expansion of pharmacists’ scopes of practice, and in particular stresses the need to build incentives into the system so pharmacists conduct more “value-added” services, such as providing help to patients managing chronic conditions.
