While still a relatively new concept in Canada, interprofessional health care is gaining momentum among both legislators and frontline healthcare professionals. That joint push is a positive sign, considering the considerable investments required in research, training and infrastructure in order to shift the delivery of health care to interprofessional practice.

In March 2010, the Nova Scotia Ministry of Health proposed amendments to the Pharmacy Act that will give pharmacists the authority to order lab test, monitor drug therapy and administer injections.
