Maternal mortality in Africa: Time to correct this 'glaring health inequality'
Of the 10 countries with the highest maternal mortality rates in the world, eight are in sub-Saharan Africa. The lifetime risk of maternal death is 200 times worse than in Canada. But AMREF efforts have proven that if are invested in proven strategies—training midwives, equipping clinics with basic but life-saving equipment and providing access to family planning services—thousands of mother’s lives will be saved.
