The NDP confirmed on Friday that it reached a deal on pharmacare with the Liberals, which would allow every Canadian with a health card to access free diabetes medication and birth control.

The first deadline to reach a deal was pushed back in December, with both parties agreeing to extend it to March 1.

The ruling is the first of its kind and extends a theory championed by some anti-abortion groups—that embryos and fetuses should be considered children and be afforded legal protections—into a new realm.
