Cancer therapies have evolved from conventional cytotoxic chemotherapy to targeted drugs that interfere with specific molecules involved in tumour growth. Targeted drugs that inhibit the epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor have been successfully tested and are in clinical use for various cancers.
