Some addictions health professionals are worried the health system will be unable to meet demand for addiction-related services once drug utilization reviews, which include automatic alerts when someone tries to fill a prescription at more than one pharmacy, become part of the system. They are also concerned that as prescription supplies are cut off because of this misuse, addicts may turn to more dangerous non-prescription drugs. But one pharmacist believes the system will actually enhance outcomes.
