Doctors Manitoba is running a contest where Manitobans who pledge to take steps to get healthier can win prizes. The contest is being run alongside the launch of a website that provides tips on getting healthy by addressing certain areas, including: Moving more Getting better sleep Eating healthy Reducing stress Catching up on immunization Catching up on medical screenings (e.g., cancer, STIs) “Doctors want to help Manitobans take simple steps towards living healthier lives and have some fun in the process,” explained Dr. Michael Boroditsky, president of Doctors Manitoba. Doctors Manitoba commissioned a study that showed 83% of those surveyed believed they could be doing more to live a healthy life, including 56% who said they should be more active and 48% who said they should eat a healthier diet. The survey did show improvements from last years’ results. The percentage of people who rated their health as poor or fair decreased from 31% last year to 26% this year. Also, 25% said their focus on healthy living improved over the past two years, compared to only 17% last year. “The last few years had a lot of disruptions, but as things get back to normal doctors recommend making getting healthy part of our new normal routine,” Dr. Boroditsky said. The prizes in the Getting Healthy contest include: Two nights at Lakehouse on Clear Lake in Wasagaming, Manitoba One night at Inn at the Forks Hotel in Winnipeg Paddleboarding clinic for two Kayaking adventure for eight One year’s subscription to the Calm app Gift certificate to a grocery store Six-month gym passes Bluetooth speakers Water bottles Frisbees The survey was conducted by Viewpoints Research in May 2023. It included 1,023 respondents and has a margin of error of +/-3.1%, 19 times out of 20. The 2022 survey had 1,054 respondents and has a margin of error of +/- 3%, 19 times out of 20 The contest ends on June 30, 2023.
