Toronto Rehab seeks $100 million in largest-ever campaign for funds

TORONTO | Toronto Rehab Foundation has launched a $100-million fundraising campaign, the largest in its history.The foundation helps underwrite the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, part of the University Health Network and the largest rehabilitation hospital in Canada, with six sites in Toronto.The goals of the campaign, called “Where Incredible Happens,” are to:Help fund the hospital’s acquisition of advanced technologies and equipmentSupport facility construction and renovationProvide financial support for life-enhancing research, critical patient programs and advanced health educationAttract and retain clinician scientistsEndow academic chairs for healthcare practitionersBuild endowments for annual patient programs, continuing medical education and clinical researchAt the Oct. 26 campaign launch, Dr. Geoff Fernie, Toronto Rehab’s vice president of research, discussed the importance of research and his team’s commitment to remaining the world’s number one research rehabilitation centre.Dean Connor, chair of the fundraising campaign and financial president and CEO of Sun Life, addressed the need for philanthropy to accelerate the outcomes of the research and move them into the community. Toronto Rehab’s focus is on prevention and keeping patients out of hospitals.“This is one of [Toronto’s] most ambitious fundraising campaigns,” said Cindy Yelle, foundation president, “but it’s also one of its most important, considering the positive effect it can have on the lives of people in need of physical rehabilitation after trauma, accidents, strokes and even cancer.” Read more about Toronto Rehab Foundation
