Three new indications: Bimzelx, Keytruda and Mirena

Bimzelxbimekizumab solution for subcutaneous injection, UCB Canada.NEW INDICATIONS 1. Treatment of active psoriatic arthritis in adults, alone or in combination with a conventional nonbiologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (e.g., methotrexate). 2. Treatment of active ankylosing spondylitis in adults who have responded inadequately or are intolerant to conventional therapy. 3. Treatment of active nonradiographic axial spondyloarthritis in adults with objective signs of inflammation, as indicated by elevated C-reactive protein and/or magnetic resonance imaging; intended for patients who have responded inadequately or are intolerant to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. (Originally indicated only for use in the treatment of moderate to severe plaque psoriasis in adults who are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy.)DOSAGE Active psoriatic arthritis, active ankylosing spondylitis or active nonradiographic axial spondyloarthritis: 160 mg by subcutaneous injection every four weeks. Suitable areas for injection include the thigh, abdomen and upper arm.Keytrudapembrolizumab solution for infusion, Merck.NEW INDICATION First-line treatment of locally advanced unresectable or metastatic HER2-negative gastric or gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) adenocarcinoma in adults, in combination with fluoropyrimidine- and platinum-containing chemotherapy. (Also approved earlier for numerous other indications; consult product monograph for details.)DOSAGE Locally advanced unresectable or metastatic HER2-negative gastric or GEJ adenocarcinoma: 200 mg every three weeks or 400 mg every six weeks, administered as an intravenous infusion over 30 minutes.Mirenalevonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system, Bayer.EXPANDED INDICATIONS Now indicated for conception control for up to eight years (formerly 5 years). Also now indicated for the treatment of idiopathic menorrhagia following appropriate diagnostic investigation for up to five years (formerly no time period specified) in women accepting the contraceptive effect of Mirena.DOSAGE Conception control: Levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system is inserted into the uterine cavity and left in place for up to eight years. If continued use is desired after eight years, a new system should be inserted immediately after the old one is removed. Idiopathic menorrhagia: Similar to above, but device is left in place for up to five years and replaced immediately after the old one is removed if continued use is desired after the five-year period. Data on use for this indication beyond five years are limited.
