Sask. doctor faces indefinite suspension for refusing to hand over ‘financial or business information’ to college

A Saskatoon doctor who had faced complaints from patients who lost thousands of dollars is facing an indefinite suspension until she hands over the documents requested by the college.In its June 20 decision, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan ruled that Dr. Kristyn Insley, who ran a medical aesthetics business, is guilty of “unbecoming, improper, unprofessional, or discreditable conduct” for refusing to cooperate with the college’s investigation.According to the ruling, the college’s preliminary inquiry committee had made requests for several documents in March 2025. It is unclear from the ruling what these documents were, but Dr. Insley’s response to the college suggests that the documents pertained to her “financial or business information.”“It is my understanding that the role of the college of physicians and surgeons is to regulate the practice of medicine and patient care. As such, I will not be providing further financial or business information,” she wrote in her response. “Should any concerns arise regarding practice of medicine or patient care, I would be happy to respond.”In another email to the college’s legal counsel, she wrote, “As per my previous emails, I will not be providing any further financial or business information to the college. Please make decision/judgement based on the information the college already has.”Dr. Insley's suspension is indefinite until she turns over the documents, with an additional two-month suspension that would be applied thereafter. She has also been ordered to pay $1,320 in costs. In November, CTV News had reported that Dr. Insley had closed her medical aesthetics business, despite the fact that several of her clients had already pre-bought thousands of dollars services in bulk. The outlet also reported that these clients filed complaints with the college.Documents from insolvency firm MNP show that Dr. Insley’s medical corporation, Kristyn Insley Medical Prof. Corp., had declared bankruptcy last December. MNP is acting as the bankruptcy trustee for the medical corporation.According to MNP’s preliminary report to creditors dated Dec. 30, 2024, Dr. Insley’s business began to struggle after the COVID-19 pandemic, falling behind on payroll deductions to Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The CRA subsequently froze her corporation’s bank account in December 2023.The report also notes that Dr. Insley’s business faced another blow in 2023 after she was handed a three-month suspension by the college for failing to report that she had been criminally charged and convicted with impaired driving and failing to provide a breath sample.“As a result, the Corporation was unable to generate sufficient revenue to recover financially and in October 2024, Dr. Insley made the decision to discontinue operations,” the report stated.The creditor package shows that Dr. Insley’s medical corporation owes more than $1.1 million to 17 different creditors. However, this list does not include the patients who had pre-bought services from the business. MNP’s preliminary report notes that the names of these patients had not been disclosed in the documents due to “professional responsibilities surrounding patient confidentiality.”“These patients/creditors have been notified of the Corporation’s bankruptcy and the Trustee is in the process of providing the required documentation and receiving Proofs of Claim. The total amount owing in relation to these creditors is unknown to the Trustee at this time,” the report said.
