Role:

My journey has seen me take on various roles, from being a designated manager of several pharmacies, to founding two successful pharmacies, to my current position as the Chief Operating Officer of PharmaGuide. In this role, I have had the distinct pleasure of collaborating with numerous pharmacists and pharmacy operators nationwide.

My work focuses primarily on implementing innovative tools and strategies that not only elevate patient care but also adhere to the stringent regulatory requirements of our profession. At the heart of my professional ethos is a deep-seated passion for the role of pharmacists in healthcare. This passion extends beyond the day-to-day responsibilities of pharmacy practice, encompassing advocacy for the profession and a commitment to enhancing care outcomes. My vision has always been to foster a more collaborative and innovative healthcare environment, where the collective effort leads to significant improvements in the industry.

What excites you about being an entrepreneur?

The most exhilarating part of my role at PharmaGuide is the creative freedom to dream, innovate, and create alongside friends and colleagues. Witnessing our solutions, especially PHOX, positively impact patient care and make a real difference in the day-to-day lives of our colleagues is profoundly fulfilling. It’s about crafting innovations that not only address current needs but also prevent burnout and shape a better future for the industry.

How has your entrepreneurial career evolved?

My journey with PharmaGuide has been marked by incredible collaborations with industry leaders, regulatory bodies, manufacturers, banners, chains, and professionals. This collaborative spirit has enabled us to identify critical issues and work together to solve them, making our journey with PharmaGuide and PHOX not just about our own growth, but about fostering a collective advancement in pharmacy practice.

What is your key driving force to become an entrepreneur?

At the core, my entrepreneurial drive stems from a desire to innovate and a commitment to enhancing patient care. Being actively involved in pharmacy practice with PharmaGuide keeps our approach grounded, while focusing on creating impactful solutions like PHOX that address real-world challenges.

How do you define success?

Success at PharmaGuide is measured by the impact of our work, particularly PHOX, on improving pharmacy practices and healthcare outcomes. It’s about making a tangible difference that alleviates the burdens of our peers, enhances regulatory compliance, and advocates for the pharmacy profession.

What continues to drive you?

The ongoing evolution of the healthcare industry, the potential for meaningful innovation, and the opportunity to work alongside a team of passionate professionals at PharmaGuide continue to drive me. Seeing the real-world benefits of PHOX and our advocacy efforts on patients and the pharmacy community is incredibly motivating.

What are the biggest challenges to being an entrepreneur?

The challenge lies in balancing the multifaceted roles of an entrepreneur and a practising pharmacist. It involves navigating the complexities of the healthcare industry, fostering innovation, and maintaining a spirit of collaboration at PharmaGuide.

How do you manage your work/life balance?

Balancing professional responsibilities with personal well-being is vital. I prioritize personal time, ensuring I remain passionate and effective in my work at PharmaGuide and in my role as a practising pharmacist.

What resources do you recommend?

In navigating the dynamic landscape of pharmacy and entrepreneurship, two resources have been particularly influential in my journey, along with the invaluable role of professional networking:

"The Lean Startup" by Eric Ries: This book is essential for anyone in the entrepreneurial space.

"Good to Great" by Jim Collins: A compelling read for leaders in any field, this book provides insights into what elevates organizations from mediocrity to excellence.

Additionally, networking and professional groups play a crucial role. Being actively involved in pharmacy associations and groups is invaluable. These groups offer a wealth of resources, including networking opportunities, continuing education, and insights into the latest industry trends and regulations. They provide a platform for collaboration, professional growth, and staying at the forefront of pharmacy practice.

What’s your advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?

Embrace collaboration, find joy in your work, and stay connected to the core values of your profession. Be passionate about making a difference and let this drive your entrepreneurial journey.
