Pets of pharmacy: Bailey

They say a dog is Man’s best friend—Drew Peddie agrees. Drew, a community pharmacist in London ON, submitted this picture of his bet bud Bailey from one of their many many hiking adventures over the years. Here’s how Drew describes his friend: “Bailey came into our family when my daughter Grace was two years old. On a whim, we decided to call a local breeder after seeing one of his older siblings in the cashier line at a local pet store. The breeder had just two dogs left from the most recent litter. Bailey’s sister was a wild thing who ran circles around the room when she was brought in to greet us. Bailey, on the other hand, instantly won us over when he trotted up to Grace who was sitting in the floor, sat down beside her and, leaned against her. Bailey came home with us that very night. “Over the years Bailey has been a wonderful and truly one-of-kind companion. Everybody says he has the most human eyes. He is a kind, gentle, devoted soul. He loves the outdoors and he has been my constant walking, hiking, and adventure companion. Three years ago he climbed to the top of The Crack in Killarney with my daughter and I. This is a picture from that trip which was a very important bonding trip between my adventurous teenage daughter and I. Bailey being there and completing the gruelling climb made it that much more special. He camps out on the rocks in Georgian Bay with us. He has gone on countless fishing trips with us. Whenever I’ve had a stressful day he is there to cheer me up and get me outside in the fresh air to clear my head. “Bailey is now 13 years old and he has begun to slow down. His walks are more strolls now and all-day hiking trips are behind him. He takes gabapentin three times a day for his arthritis. But he is still very healthy and happy. Most days he sleeps a lot. But when any of us come home he still rushes to see us, wagging his tail, excited to be reunited. We have been very fortunate to have him as our companion and he has brought a lot of joy and laughter to our lives.” Bailey does sound like a really good friend to his family.
