CPhA looking for pharmacist input on sexual health resources

The Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA) is looking for input for pharmacists as they expand their sexual and reproductive health toolkit. With the goal of delivering inclusive sexual and reproductive healthcare, the CPhA developed a toolkit in 2023 designed to enhance pharmacists’ abilities to provide contraception and medical abortion services to underserved communities. Now, the association is hoping to develop two new toolkits to address the specific needs of transgender, non-binary, Indigenous and Two-Spirit communities. Working in partnership with the Contraception and Abortion Research Team (CART) at the University of British Columbia, who also helped develop the original 2023 toolkit, the CPhA’s new open-access educational toolkit will feature infographics, videos and practice-oriented resources in French and English to equip pharmacists with the knowledge they need to provide gender-affirming care to transgender and non-binary folks and reduce healthcare avoidance thanks to provider gaps in knowledge.The CPhA will be collaborating with the Indigenous Pharmacy Professionals of Canada (IPCC) to co-develop their toolkit for Indigenous and Two-Spirit patients. The toolkit will include accredited training, practice tools and patient-facing resources, with translations of patient materials in Indigenous languages for further accessibility. The project will emphasize culturally safe care and cover contraception, abortion, fertility and navigating programs like the Non-Insured Health Benefits program.The Association wants to make sure that the toolkits reflect the lived experiences and needs of the populations they hope to serve. As such, they will conduct focus groups with pharmacists and facilitate online communities with patients. These will include pharmacists already providing sexual and reproductive care to underserved communities, as well as the target communities. The CPhA is now recruiting participants for these focus groups and online communities. In particular, they are looking for pharmacists who provide care to transgender and non-binary individuals, and Indigenous and Two-Spirit individuals. These focus groups will take place on June 3 to June 5 and interested pharmacists can sign up here.The CPhA is also looking for community members who identify as transgender, non-binary, Indigenous and/or Two-Spirit to participate in an online communities by answering questionnaires. Interested community members can sign up here. All participants, pharmacist and patients, will receive a $100 gift card for their time.
