Colin’s Dumb Guy guide to our new website

We promised our new website would be back yesterday afternoon, didn’t we? Well, better the next day than never, I say! So let us start at the beginning You’ve come to read this story probably by clicking on a link in the Doctor Daily newsletter we send you. . . (You didn’t? Chat at the bottom of this note.) First thing—and I know we all pretty much intuitively know this—but some people still look at a page and say: “Where’s the home button?” It is, of course—as our fingers almost intuitively tell us now—the logo at the top left of a story page. Click on that: first thing I noticed was that our home page loads so much faster than it did with the old technology we were using. So: Our new website has faster loading speeds. The home page is our digital “front page” and along the top you have a collection of options. You might see along the right side options for non-physicians. If you go down the page you'll see other news, blogs and features. Those pull-down menus on the black bar at top of course offer some content areas you can go look around. Search is beside your profile update button on the top right of the home page. Features of new website: Premium mobile experience All site features available (no limitations vs. the desktop experience). So pages look good on smartphone. The new technology in this website lets us as journalists put photo galleries and small quizzes and videos directly into our stories so you'll see more of that. Better commenting Allows users to follow comment threads. Mostly commenting will be like it was before: doctor only. But because CanadianHealthcareNetwork—the online home of the Medical Post—is a portal we do serve other healthcare professions: particularly pharmacists. So some stories will be open up for commenting by pharmacists as well as doctors but everyone’s profession is identified with their comment so you get where they are coming from.
